SPEECH ASSESSMENT

A speech evaluation entails:

  • Parent/Caregiver Interview

  • An informal hearing screening

  • Standardized articulation assessment at the word level

  • Evaluation of phonological processes gathered from standardized articulation assessment 

  • Assess a language sample of 50 utterances to evaluate intelligibility in connected speech

  • An oral peripheral examination to assess potential oral motor deficits

  • Screen fluency rate

  • Screen vocal quality

  • 30-minute meeting to discuss the results of the report and answer questions approximately 2-3 weeks after evaluation

* Duration of evaluation is dependent on child's disposition and level of rapport with clinician 

 
LANGUAGE ASSESSMENT

A language evaluation entails:

  • Parent/Caregiver Interview

  • An informal hearing screening

  • A Standardized Language Assessment

  • Evaluate a language sample of at least 50 sentences/verbal responses to determine child's mean length utterances (MLU), report child's level of Brown's stage of syntactical & morphological development, and report syntax or semantic errors produced in his or her spontaneous speech (e.g., pronoun reversal, dropping articles, verb errors, etc.)

  • Report informal observations of language and social skills in the home setting

  • 60-minute meeting to discuss the results of the report and answer questions approximately 2-3 weeks after evaluation

* Duration of evaluation is dependent on child's disposition and level of rapport with clinician 

 
COMPREHENSIVE EVALUATIONS

Speech & Language Assessment:

  • A Comprehensive Evaluation entails:

  • Parent/Caregiver Interview

  • A standardized articulation & language assessment

  • Evaluation of phonological processes gathered from standardized articulation assessment

  • An oral peripheral examination to assess potential oral motor deficits

  • Screen vocal quality & fluency

  • Evaluate a language sample of at least 50 sentences/verbal responses to assess intelligibility in connected speech, determine child's mean length utterance (MLU), report child's level of Brown's stage of syntactical & morphological development, and report syntax or semantic errors produced in his or her spontaneous speech

  • Report informal observations of language & social skills in the home environment

  • 90 min meeting to discuss results and answer questions approximately 2-3 weeks after evaluation ​

MULTIPLE SETTINGS EVALUATION
 

A multiple settings evaluation entails:

  • Parent/Caregiver and preschool teacher interview

  • A standardized articulation & language assessment

  • Evaluation of phonological processes gathered from standardized articulation assessment

  • An oral peripheral examination to assess potential oral motor deficits

  • Screen vocal quality & fluency

  • Evaluate a language sample of at least 50 sentences/verbal responses to assess intelligibility in connected speech, determine child's mean length utterance, report child's level of Brown's stage of syntactical & morphological development, and report syntax or semantic errors produced in his or her spontaneous speech

  • Report observations of language & social skills in the home & preschool environment

  • 90-120 min meeting to discuss results of report and answer questions approximately 2-3 weeks after evaluation​

CONSULTATIONS
 
  •  IEP preparation and consultation: analyzing school district comprehensive reports to ensure all areas of suspected needs are addressed prior to IEP meeting for preschool students

  • Advocacy at IEP meetings for preschool students

  • Parent Training: teaching parents how to create opportunities to target language skills in the home environment and or everyday settings

  • Private preschool training: instructing preschool teachers how to target language skills for children who do not qualify for special education services
